1. RESUNGA REGION
Resunga Hill and
the forest, a land of salvation,
the Resunga Hill and its forest and forested area attracts the people of the
different background due to its amazing natural beauty. The Resunga environment
inspires devotees to devote themselves to achieve an accomplishment and to obtain
the subtle knowledge and peace in life.
Resunga pond,
the centre of attraction is situated at the altitude of 2129m
from the sea level. It was a big lake in the past. Historical evidences
indicate that devotees used to take holy bath in it. A big religious gathering
can be seen on the month of Shrawan (July – August) every year. Pilgrims
visit the Resunga pond to fulfill their desire to get moksha.
Gufa – Fulbari
Ashram is another attraction of Resunga. Sashidhar did accomplishment at this
place. This place is the land of origin of Jasmani cult. Many rishis got self –
mastery through yoga, meditation and austerity. This religious asset has now
been fossilized. We need to do research to bring the hidden facts of it.
It is a
religious place which was constructed by General Lalit Junga in 1993 B.S. The
dead body of Mahaprabhu has been cremated at Garudasthan.
It is situated on the northern slope of
Resunga Hill. Dasharatha, a legendary but childless king of Ayodhaya did Yagya
(pious donation) at this place. It is said that he got his desire fulfilled
after his oblation. So, Ram – Laxman Kuwa (well) has been famous as pilgrimage
of miracle. The legend says that Ram and laxman, the sons of King Dasharatha
originated a source of water at this point by their divine power and people
believe that the level of water of these wells never gets decreased. And the
childless couples get their child if they drink water of it.
(LandofOblation)Yagyashala
is a very attractive asset of Resunga constructed by Sashidhar. Yagyashala
(Land of Oblation) has been decorated with a golden pinnacle, bronze roof,
statue of God, holystones, Shivalinga (a phallic symbol of Shiva), hawankunda
(a pit of fire scarificing). It is in a pagoda style (the Nepali – style). The
Radhakrishna temple is there in the premises of it. The tradition of offering
ghee in an infinite fire by Sashidhar and Yedakandana has been in practice till
date. The Yagyashala and the Radhakrishna temple are the only religious
monuments preserved from the devilish acts of Yeudakandana that he could not
destroy these properties. The religious ceremonies, rites and rituals have been
continuing with the Vedic philosophy at Resunga. In many occasion, thousands of
people gather and worship from the surrounding area.
7. SIDDHASTHAN
Siddhasthan is
a famous religious shrine of Resunga. The saints, who have attained the
salvation through austere religious practice, get worshipped at Siddhasthan.
Animal sacrifice, a part of worship in some of the Hindu traditions, has to be
stopped at Siddhasthan such as animal sacrificing activities are accepted only
in the Tantric School of thought.
It is situated
on the top of the Resunga hill. A topological and demographical beauty can be
viewed from Vishnupaduka. Sashidhar and Laxmi Narayan were cremated at
Vishnupaduka. There are two temples – The Vishnu temple and The Shiva temple.
The Vishnu temple and The Shiva temple are regarded as the symbol of Sashidhar
and Laxmi Narayan respectively. Their vehicles, the Garuda (eagle) and the
Bashaha (bull) are in the premises of the temple. The temples are made up of
stones in the Gumbaja style (dome). We have to visit this place once in our
lifetime. It is a pinnacle point for tourism of this region.
This is the
place of an ardous practice. Laxmi Narayan did accomplishment at the Maira
Mandir. It is nearer to the Tamghas on the foothill of Resunga. It is the main
centre of the Saivavites. A large fair or gathering is seen during Shivaratri.
Saune is a land
of meditation and adoration of Swamis especially for winter season. It is
located on the north – west slope of Resunga. General Lalit Junga founded it.
Laxmi – Narayan liberated his soul on this shrine. Saune falling in Arkhale
Village Development Committee in Resunga region is the place of histological
and archaeological importance. A tangible inventory built in a very artistic
design and style with stone sculpture would be the centre of attraction for
pilgrims as well as for the researchers. The foundation of old buildings
outside the compound is still seen. The shrine is over 100 years (interaction
with the locals, 2005). However, the conservation of the shrine, historical
fruit (mango, guava, litchi, etc) garden and the remains of homkunda in a big
compound are lacking. The current condition of the multi – storied shrine where
it is located and its compound calls for the immediate attention of the
Department of Archaeology, Government of Nepal.
It is famous
for grazing of cows. Laxmi – Narayan initiated this tradition. Later on, Prime
Minister Jung Bahadur Rana and Yogi Naraharinath reformed a lot foor its proper
management. It has been a place of attraction at the present moment.
It is situated
at the north of Resunga. People get mesmerized of its beauty and religious
activities. The devotees gather here to enjoy devotional songs, hymns,
spiritual discourse, etc. This place might be a centre of attraction for
religious gathering in future.
It is situated
in a close proximity of Resunga. It is famous for fire sacrificing. There is a
wide pit of 4.5 m of length. It is fossilized but very important pilgrimage
site in a religious and archaeological point of view.
It is about 2
km. away from Resunga. It has been developed as a fort of this place. A
protective wall of moat surrounds it. It might be a place of worship and
devotion of devotees and ascetics in the past.
Situated on the southern lap of the Sano Resunga, people
believe that a woman while going to her parents’ house gave birth to her child
at this place. That’s why it got its name Maiti Odar (Cave).
Arjunakot is situated at the south of Tamghas. The western
entrance – gate of the fort historically and archaeologically had been an asset
of great importance. Historians are of the opinion that a king named Kaitaba
used to rule this area in around 1492 B.S. The Gorkhalis (great fighters) later
on, stationed at Arjunakot in unifying the Chaubise Rajyas (the 24
principalities) during the time of unification campaign launched by King
Prithivi Narayan Shah. The remains/fossils of the fort are still found
scattered in and around the Kot. To the north of the fort, there lie fossils of
the well used by the king. King Kaitaba was a cruel and lustful ruler. The
newly married bride had to spend her first night with the King. This tradition
continued for a long time until a newly married bride of Aryal clan killed him
(interaction with the locals, 2005). Kalika temple is under construction in
this area.
The Kalika Mandir (Temple) is situated at Tamghas – 8,
Bhujelkharka. The worshipping of the goddess Kalika at the temple is done
regularly with a specific tradition. But a vey striking featureof the temple is
that a Wizard – God is worshipped before Goddess Kalika. The Brahmin and the
Magar priests do the religious rituals simultaneously.
It was the main
administration centre of Gulmi during the time of small principalities (Baise
& Chaubise Rajyas).During the period, the Lichavi, Kas, Sen, Magar and the
Thakuri kings ruled over there. Many Chaubise Rajyas (states) were under Gulmi.
The Charpala Durbar is one of the most important palaces of Nepal in a
historical and archaeological point of view. The palace has been decorated with
the assets like cannon, swords, khagda, utensils abd antiquities. A huge
religious gathering from different parts of the country throngs here during the
main occasions. A case study has to be carries out in the palace.
It was built Recently at the top of the Resunga
area .It is 7 meter in height . Onecan have a spectacular 180 degree view of
snowcapped mountains (like Mount Dhaulagiri) to the flats of Terai from the
view tower. It is breathtaking and airy
place
Another holy
place Ridi also known as Ruru Kshetra lies in the bank of Kali-Gandaki river in
Gulmi. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims from Nepal and India pay homage to lord
Rishi Keshav in Ridi during Makar Sakranti festival in mid January every year.
It is located 50 km away from Tamghas.
